| I think there are two different situations being confused here: Firstly we have the situation where cars that pass SVA are then modified away from "SVA spec" - not sure what can be done about that as you can buy a type-approved production tintop and still modify it legally away from manufacturers original specification (notification to insurers assumed to be done). Secondly we have low volume manufacturers masquerading as "amateur builders" - and that is the loophole currently being closed. It was only a matter of time. I still believe the SVA test, "flawed though it is" has been a good thing, and does stop poorly built cars getting onto the roads in the main. The recent issue with badly-welded shortened driveshafts notwithstanding. (pity they missed that one).

| Good points well made there Wilf. Also the mod'ing scene is massive in the UK with interior and exterior changes that are wey off the type approval spec. It would be a nightmare to police such changes.
