Handbrake Cable for Sierra 4x4 hubs

Hi
Having a bit of trouble with the extra 500mm of cable for the above handbrake. Anyone solved this problem other than by "cutting and clamping" the cable as suggested in the manual...
In my particular case the ends of the cable have an eye that hooks over a lever located on top of the hub.

Is there a type of engineer who could re-crimp the end to withstand the appropriate loads?
Currently toying with an elaborate pulley system to take up the slack but fear the SVA man may not like it...gotta be better than cutting the cable though?!

May as well attach these...
2 clamps short of a complete exhaust not much to show but the rest is there!
Only a couple of hundred hours left now!:drive:
Cheers
Dec

Have a closer look at the photo on the right and you can just make out some 'body mods' to the right of the boot opening approx where the rear lights mount, is somebody doing something different with his rear lights ??????????
