Okay, for those of you that didn't like my precision shims...

Tinka and I managed to get the side pipe fitted and we even managed to modfify on of the headers to make it fit!
Just got another 7 headers to modify!

Can't help on the particular Viper related issues but on the subject of exhaust flexing, I have range rover engine mounts on my RV8 and no flexible portions in the exhaust (mine has an underbody system); minimal engine rock and careful mounting of the exhaust has served my car well for 18 years.

Cheers

You don't need a flexi joint if the engine is mounted with a steady bar and the exhaust is designed and mounted accordingly.
Fitment of an engine anti-torque bar from head to chassis is a fairly easy process. This allows much closer clearances as far as exhaust mounting goes, particularly with underfloor systems. It can also help with cooling hoses and the like.
Some Rover engines wobble about like a jelly, Chevy's are not so bad and Ford's seem fairly solid as standard.

Most side pipes come with two mounts. You only need the rear mount as long as the front joints are designed to stay tight. ie. not slip joints.

Flange plate fitment is suitable or tight slips and springs. Avoid mild steel slips as I have seen corrosion in the joints lead to a very loose fit after time.

Sorry Iain I just couldn't resist it! Really impressed with your set up and I bet it took a while to mate all those pipes up!

As for Dinosaurs comments, I have never heard of a steady bar before, but I'm going to be looking into this idea in the next day or two as removing the flexi pipe from the set-up would be a great help. Did you buy the steady bar or is this something you made yourself?

Regards
CeeJay.

No offence taken! I've only got one header mated so far. I've booked two days off work next week hoping to get the other seven done.... Fat chance me thinks. You've got to try anyway!

I'll put the precision shims away just in case you need them!

Cheers...

The steady bar in the picture was a Jaguar anti-roll bar post, complete with rubber bushes.

Rover P6's used a similar (but much slimmer) rod mounted in a similar manner.

Rubber bush one end and a rod end at the other is another way.

Interesting - I'll have a look at my set-up and see if I can squeeze in something similar using ford parts. Thanks for all the help guys - as always its appreciated!
