Spring Heights

Hi All

I'm getting to the point in the build where I need to consider spring heights. Currently my car body sits rougthly 5 inches to high - I know that several of you have sorted this out - can anyone let me know what spring heights/poundage I should be using on my for cortina/sierra setup with a rv8 anchor?

CeeJay.

Anchor.....anchor.....Ha hahahah. Thats a fishing weight!!

Hope you get the springs sorted. Cant help but mine is sitting 2.5" too high if that is any consolation, but an easy fix.

I personally would leave it high for the SVA and get it sorted afterwards.
My headlights were borderline with 'monster truck' styling approach.
Cheers
Kevin
PS We went for the strongest possible springs on the front. Very Heavy Duty corty ones.
I will think of the name of the company later, cost about £20 per spring.

It may only be a fishing weight when compared to a chevy smallblock but as the poor sap who had to move the bloody engine by myself on a wooden trolley over 100 feet of partially frozen grass (back in december) it was flipping heavy enough! I dont know how you chevy and ford guys move your engines about! You must all be related to popeye, as I almost gave myself a hernia with just 400 pounds of weight to move...

Wheres me can of spinach?

Thanks for the advice Kevin (I thought you'd be out driving your cobra now thats its sva'd - what you doing indoors?), but I'd like to get the car down to the correct height just now so that I can make sure the body lines up correctly with the wheels - I think that this may be my next big issue...

Mines a Big Block. All 680lbs of it. Engine crane and help from a mate and his lovely 22yr old female blond assistant got it moved and in the car.

Gareth08 takes the p out of my 'Boat Anchor' but I just found your statement funny. I had a RV8 and life was so much easier.

Just poking fun.

I've been back about a week - and very glad I am to be home! Your sva pass has given me the kick up the arse I required to get back to it!

Hi CJ
What exact spec Sierra have you got on the back?
I know this has been covered a bit but to recap,
Rear spring weights apparently need fuel and a person to set heights...
I got a lowering kit from halfords (not recommended!!) and these give me good unladen heights (spring specs were -45mm). I'm a bit away from fuelling up the old girl so the other bit will wait. These are tending to move about when the wheels are off the ground but as I've the estate set up the shock traps the spring.

I took them back off for now as they leave the rear wheels at 30 - 40 degrees off the vertical and I got the fear!!
Turns out that metal wedges can be machined up to counter act this but I'm not sure how/where they go on. Somewhere between the hub carrier and the frame I gather...

As far as I remember the manual recommends that you cut a turn off the fat end of the springs on the rear and put them back on. having played about with it I think this should actually do the trick! Give it a go they're cheap to replace.

I'll check later (eh..) but I've either 280 or 380lbs a side on 8 1/2" springs on avo coil overs on the fronts (sierra+RV. This gives me about 25mm travel on the shock after the arch hits the tyre!! Can't say how this handles thou!

HTH
