    Tappet pre-load setting

    Gents

Could you please tell me, do I need to do anything with the lifters when installing new ones in my new engine (4.6L). I am using Rhoads high rev lifters, new. RPI talk about shimming rocker shafts and stuff. is this essential??

    Many thanks in advance.

    Rupert,

Not sure if you will get conflicting views on this one. I have taken advice from a few people who I consider "know a bit" and the view was not essential. It is if you have issues on exact emissions. I haven't on any of my builds.

    Hope this helps.

    Rupert,
If you have anything over stage I heads, I've been advised very strongly by other parties than RPI, than it's essential to shim the shafts for correct lifter pre-load. You usually get a set-up leaflet with the lifters. Real Steel automatically added them to my shopping list when I ordered hi-rev lifters with them.....
