RE: Chevy Rocker cover to fit Rover

How I holed the sump is a bit of a mystery and how I am going to solve the problem is even more of one. I think it will be a combination of modifying the sump to shorten it and add wings to maintain the volume . A sump guard under a standard sump will make the ground clearnce even less. Then a sump guard and raising the suspension and maybe raising the engine I think I can get about 20 mm on the mounts. I'let you know after Xmas. Still I got two weeks driving between SVA and destruction.

I've just seen this thread, sorry I'm slow with what follows.

I know some of you have spent a lot of money on rocker covers, and they DO look good, but if you talk to John Eales - surely the best Rover engine builder/tuner in the country - he firmly advised me to use standard rocker covers.

The baffles inside the covers perform an important function and even those nice alloy ones he used to put on his own engines (that read JE Developments and which were used on roller/steel rocker gear engines) gave some trouble.

I think it's all to do with condensation and oil contamination. Look at an old engine, inside the rocker cover, and see how much gunge accumulates there. Horrible! Where would all that go if it doesn't collect in the baffles? I strongly suggest no short journeys so that any cold-start condensation gets well evaporated before your engine cools down again.

Andy - I think you are right about the baffles, in that their main purpose is to stop oil being blown out of the breathers. Any good quality after market cover should incorporate them, but it's worth checking.

James - have a look in your "private in-box". BTW - I got your phone number from your post and have made a note. It's a bit late tonight - will try to remember to call you tomorrow evening, assuming my Friday night bottle of wine doesn't addle my old brain too much. Or you can call me. Whatever.

I agree with Wilf. Why do you want an engine to look like something else.Next you'll be putting Corvette badges on the car.Lok at a pair of "Standard" rover rocker covers. What else do you need
