Go for a C-Tek charger and you can leave it on trickle charge over winter. The 7.0amp one I have does de-sulphur. If your battery is a calcium one I have had 10 years life. Had Bosch S5 and Halford Calcium batteries which last and give a good crank cold start rating for a small size.
The Aldi and Lidl ones are a lot cheaper but don't have all the options of the C-Tek.

    Thanks all!
Good news: New battery solved all issues!
Bad news: Fuel pump doesn't seem to be pulling fuel though from the tank... the challenge continues!
(also, apologies to Jonathan for hijacking his thread...!)

If you don't have one already and you have mains available where your car is stored get a float/conditioning charger like a CTEK. Batteries don't like to be left in part charged states so especially over the winter they need to stay plugged in

So tried all the various options to no avail, so ordered new high torque starter from Summit Racing. Fitted today and now working nicely!
