    LS Oil Pan

    Hi All,

I'm about to part with some cash for a crate LS3 in my GD and wondered if anyone had swapped the oil pan for a slimmer aftermarket or alternative GM one to get better ground clearance.

I see the LS3 comes with an SS oil pan but Ive no idea what the dimensions are for this but on the LS1 forum it seems to suggest that it is quite big.

Any thoughts on what the alternative is for good ground clearance that will also fit in the GD chassis?

    Thanks.

We Swap them all the time when fitting Ls3’s in AKs.

You need the corvette sump. The camaro style one that comes with the engine is around 40mm lower. You will also need a new pickup pipe, dipstick and tube.

    Hi All,

LS3 now installed in the garage, but not the car yet.

It came fitted with what is an F body sump which I think is a Camaro with the Part no. 12628771 and this is 5.62 inches deep from the bottom of the block to the bottom of the pan.

Im struggling to find the GM sump 12598930 anywhere you referenced JamesV

However, I've managed to find a Corvette sump with part no.12624617
and looks to be about 4.85 inches deep and uses the other part numbers above such as dipstick and pick up which makes me think they are pretty similar.

Any thoughts on if this is the right one, i.e. used by everyone else and the shallowest I can get?

    Thanks

12624617 Is the corvette sump and the one you need. It’s the shallowest of all the standard gm oil pans.

    Hope that helps.

Is the dip stick tube different to that supplied as stock ?
On my 2002 LS1 I replaced the sump, pick up and dip stick but do not think the tube was replaced.

Looking at the options on that site, my corvette oil pan looks like 12561828 which at the time seemed to give the best ground clearance.
