I wonder if brands like Porsche (Lamborghini, etc) are waking up to the fact that the electric car will, essentially, kill their USP (which is the "experience") and are desperately lobbying to save good old petrol?

Not sure I follow that - you're saying the noise is key? or the emissions ?!
Hydrogen is going to be the future in 2040+ anyway - it is the only way to deal with diesel emissions from tanks and ships - battery and solar can never work.
Toyota are already working on 'black box' extraction and refuelling tech.

If you read it carefully its actually comparing total emissions, including all that filth generated in getting the heavy metals out the ground and into a battery.

.... and don't get me started on battery disposal costs: why is no one talking about this!?

No I mean the experience of driving an internal combustion engine with real gears and everything Unlike a Tesla/EV where you just point it where you want to go and use go/stop pedals like a dodgem..

As for battery disposal.. psh, that's poor people in the third world's problem!

Most of this about how green it is to "go electric" is very fashionable at present and fashion goes hand in hand with
    business.
Any issues with problems such as fires with batteries etc, etc that will burn for days on these types of vehicles will be
"D noticed" because the establishment/big businesses do not like any negatives, only the positives and there is a lot
out that only see what is pedalled .

    Any scientists on here?
I thought crude was fractionated into everything from bitumen through fuel oil for ship, avgas and finally heating gas. Can you stop producing petrol and diesel without stopping producing all the other stuff?

Breaking news, all cars from 2050 need to be petrol or diesel.

I suspect yer favourite Cranky will be covering the Highlands in windfarms under an enormous statue of Colin McLoud and exporting the leccy to the other 3rd world nation formerly known as England so that London can run its leccy cars.
