    Noisy while reversing

Noticed while reversing a dragging noise and also a few times the drive locks up when reversing into my drive on full lock and the car stalls .if I give it a bit more throttle I get a really loud clunk not unlike a coil spring breaking it’s quite alarming and has happened a few times it’s an ak and has a tremec t5 and 3.54 PWR lock jag irs . Drives fine going forward but increasingly concerned about this . Just wondered if anyone has come across this thanks

Sounds like a bit of diff lock up to me Mike.
The clue is in the full lock steering.
At that point the diff is working it's hardest.

Yes, it does sound like the diff and not a good sound either. I would have the back cover off that and see what's going on fairly promptly.

Look at the cheapest maybe’s first. It could be a brake calliper cocking over during reverse and righting itself going forward.
Do you have roll over hoops fitted to your car? The diff would usually ‘ring’ through these. If it grinds rather than rings then yes, could be the diff.

Thanks for the replies I think it needs a bit more investigation I’m paranoid it could lock up while driving now . I need to simulate the conditions to try to ascertain the cause when the car is up on stands it really is a loud bang when it goes I expected shrapnel somewhere .

I would think it's the diff as I said before Mike.
If you try pushing the car with full lock on you'll fee the same effect, you might even hear the noise too.
LSD's can be prone to this especially if it's a bit tight.
Has yours been de-rated for the Cobra?

You could count yourself lucky that you didn't end up
backwards in a ditch, this has been known to happen
with lsd's that have not been de-rated for light weight
    cars like ours .
I seem to remember this happened to someone about
twenty five years ago, can't remember who it was though.
    Take care,
    Chris.

    Hi Mike,
new build all but finished for a while now, just having major issues with the EFI set up.
I've already postponed my IVA 3 times now.
Just sending the ECU back to FAST in Tennessee for checking and hopefully repair today.
I will be getting Nige to paint it eventually.

As for your diff, it doesn't have to be de-rated but it helps.
Obviously the lock up parameters are set up for a much heavier car than a Cobra.

This is interesting. I have never heard of this needing to be done. This could explain a couple of things with the history of my car. I built it back in the early 00's but had to sell it as importing it to Spain was a nightmare. The new owner 'bent' it quite a bit soon after ownership. He had it rebuilt but had a couple more excursions in it to add to the history.
I bought it back of him three years ago and am now returning the car to how it should be. However I have never had any issues with how the car handles. Any waywardness of the back end to me have always been controllable, and predictable during a couple of instances where I have gone for gaps like a spanner.
The diff is starting to leak so maybe time to get the thing off and dispatch it to a shop for overhaul and adjustments! Its a 3:3.07 PL.
