    Your maths is correct I guess.
    But the corner weight is not what you need to be using.
    You need to subtract the unsprung weight for the calcs to work fully. (I think?)

    Strongly agree with that, what I called incorrectly corner weight does not include the unsprung weight (as suggested by the value of 400 lbs).

    As I'm currently replacing my shocks too, I thought somebody might find the measurements I took today useful. I have taken a series of measurements between the upper and lower rear shock spindles with the top of my 17" wheel rim at various distances from the wheel arch edge. As follows:

    Wheel Rim to Arch: Distance between Splindles:
    10" ........................15 5/16"
    8" ..........................14 1/8"
    6" ..........................13 1/16"
    5" ..........................12 1/2"
    4" ..........................12 1/8"

    Seems to me that a 15" shock with a 10" spring is ok for a 6" gap, but for a 5" gap I think a 14" shock with a 9" spring is best.
